Tips for Looking After Your Roof

Tips for Looking After Your Roof

A routine roof inspection is necessary because your roof is one of the most important components of your home. A damaged or leaking roof can cause problems, and a damp house can cause your home heating to work overtime.

Ensure your roof is well maintained by following these tips:

Check your spouting, downpipes, and gutters

Autumn is an excellent time to check for any obstructions. This can occur as a result of anything from dead birds and rodents to plastic bags, balls, and dirt buildup. Regular checking and clearing helps to prevent blockages, which can lead to overflows into your home.

Check your basement or downstairs garage

Another place to look for leaks is in your attic, downstairs basement or garage, especially if there has been a lot of rain. Check for signs of mould or rot, as well as water damage, which may not be visible from the ground or ladder.

Check your roof

It’s a good idea to inspect your entire roof. Examine the materials used, such as corrugated iron, tiles, and so on – Are there any areas of the roof that are warped, missing, broken, or damaged? Any damage to your roof can jeopardise its ability to keep you dry and warm during the winter.

If you discover any problems with your roof or need assistance with an inspection, we recommend that you contact Hanover Plumbing, as this may necessitate specialist knowledge and involve working at heights.
