Infinity Gas System Lifespan and Maintenance
An infinity gas system is efficient
Have you upgraded to the luxury of gas continuous flow hot water heating yet? Also known as an Infinity System, this type of hot water heating only heats water as needed. This means you’re not stuck paying to keep 180L (or more!) of water up to temperature at all times. This efficiency means savings in your pocket.
And it means not having to worry about “running out” of hot water in a busy household!
Infinity systems are tankless so they also take up less space. They are typically installed on the exterior of your home, or in a cupboard or the garage. They come in many sizes and can heat from 1.5 to 37 litres of hot water per minute!
Infinity gas systems are easy to maintain
Generally, a continuous flow hot water system should be serviced every two years. This is something Hanover Plumbing can do easily for you. Unless you’re having a problem with your system, a regular service visit should be all that you need to do to it.
Rinnai states that “In hard water areas the heat exchangers of Rinnai Infinity units are susceptible to lime buildup. Flushing the unit with food-grade vinegar or citric acid as part of regular maintenance and servicing can reduce the likelihood of an error occurring. Damage caused by lime buildup is not covered by warranty.” They have even provided a handy guide on how to flush the system. But if you aren’t sure about doing it yourself, definitely give us a call.
Outdoor system maintenance
With an outdoor unit, giving it a clean every now and then is important to prevent rusting of the casing or the flue. If there is a little bit of rust, you can gently sand it and use a metal primer to protect the area and prevent further rust.
Living near the sea is great but if you have an outdoor unit, be sure that you are cleaning it at least a few times a year so that the salt in the air doesn’t have a chance to affect it. Again, if there’s light rust you can treat it yourself – and use two coats of the primer in this case. If rust is severe you should call Hanover about replacing parts.
The lifespan of an infinity gas system
A tankless hot water system can last up to 20 years. This is much longer than a traditional hot water tank. In areas with hard water, the lifespan may be a bit shorter. To ensure you get the full lifespan out of it, get a service from professionals regularly.
Other than that, all you have to do is enjoy the non-stop hot water!
