Things to Ask Before Hiring a Plumber or Gasfitter
Everyone requires a plumber or a gas fitter at some point for our home or business. The work done by the people you hire has a big impact because any minor issues in the plumbing or gasfitting can lead to significant problems that can be costly to fix. It’s important to have a proper knowledge of who you are hiring. Especially since it’s not something most of us need to hire for on a regular basis.

1. Are you licensed/certified?
This is the primary question you need to ask them before hiring. Only hire a plumber or a gas fitter if they have a license. You can double check by searching for them on the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board website.
2. Do you have any references?
You should ask the plumber or gas fitter for references which demonstrate satisfied customers they have worked for. If they are a respectable company with satisfied customers, they will not hesitate to show you their references.
3. What is the cost?
You’ll likely need to have a quote for the work that you want done. With a large job, ask them to give you the price details in writing. 4. Will you be doing the work?
This question is something you should ask as there may be other staff who would be sent to do the job. You may want to confirm whether the person doing the work is certified, or at least know that they will be supervised by someone who is.

Some plumbers or gasfitters may require a deposit before starting the work or buying anything that will be required to fix your problem. Knowing the payment terms stops you from having any surprises.
6. Is clean-up included in the price?
With most tradespeople, there is a bit of mess involved to get the job done. Knowing that your plumber or gasfitter will clean up after themselves gives you peace of mind that they are conscientious workers and it saves you from additional work when they are done.
